FAQ for Reiki, Somatic Reiki, & Shamanic Journeys

Some clients can feel a little spaced out after a session, and I recommend taking a short walk before driving anywhere. Immersing yourself in nature, drinking fresh water, and journaling are also beneficial, supportive practices. You are invited to share as much as you wish about what is bringing you to the Reiki session. You’ll find a comfortable position, fully clothed (in our studio, you will be on a massage table). Reiki healing energy is channeled to you for your highest good. Healing music, aromatherapy, and crystals may also be used to support the session. You will have time to ask any questions you wish at the end of the session and share any insights received that support your continued well-being. Reiki energy works beyond our concepts of time, space, and place. Reiki sessions over zoom are just as powerful as those conducted in-person. As a certified Master Practitioner and Master Teacher, I have been fully trained in distance healing modalities and find them highly effective.

Find a peaceful place where you will be undisturbed for 75 minutes. Place your phone on silent mode. Create a cozy “nest” for yourself with blankets and cushions. Consider an eye pillow or scarf for covering your eyes, and have a glass of water on hand for after the session.

No. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not tied to any specific religion or dogma. People from all religious backgrounds and belief systems can practice and receive Reiki. Reiki works with a universal life force energy that is a part of all creation, and it will not interfere with your personal religious or spiritual path.

No, you do not. Reiki is not a belief system or a religion. Its effectiveness is not dependent on your personal belief. The energy will flow regardless of whether you are a skeptic or a firm believer. An open mind and a willingness to be present, however, can enhance the experience.

Yes, Reiki is a very gentle, non-invasive, and completely safe healing modality. There are no known contraindications, and it is safe for people of all ages, from infants to the elderly, as well as for pregnant women, those with medical conditions, or those recovering from surgery.

From a comfortable position, typically lying down, you are guided through meditation into the journey. Shamanic journeys may include identifying spirit guides, cord cutting, ancestral healing, removing energetic intrusions, and past life influence. Healing Reiki energy is channeled to you throughout. While both practices involve entering an altered state of consciousness, they have different intentions. Meditation is often about quieting the mind and being present. A shamanic journey is more active and purposeful; you go on a quest with a specific intention, seeking information or healing from the spirit worlds.

Experiences are highly individual. You might see images, hear sounds, feel sensations, or simply receive a deep sense of knowing. Many people describe meeting a compassionate spirit guide or a power animal. You may also receive a metaphorical story or a symbolic message that provides clarity for your question. It's also normal to have an experience that is subtle at first, with the full meaning unfolding in the days that follow.

The key is not to judge the content but to trust the process. You are guided to explore and process the somatic sensations that come to your attention. You are empowered and witnessed in a loving container. Somatic Reiki is more interactive with the body and with the practitioner. We actively dialogue with energetic phenomena in the body. As the practitioner I track your responses and ensure that you remain safe and grounded. We stay in somatic dialogue for most of the second half of the session, unlike in a typical Reiki session.
